This week, we are focussing on buying nothing new for the Cut Your Carbon campaign. The production of every item you buy has a carbon footprint - through water use, energy use and distribution.
We challenge families to buy nothing new for 1 month. Write a list of every non-essential item that you bought (or was bought for you) last month. Put them into categories - e.g. clothing, toys, or cosmetics - and don’t buy anything from one of these categories for 1 month. If you purchase 1kg less stuff during the month, you can save an average of 6kg CO2!
To get involved, you can comment on our Facebook posts or help your child to fill in and return the Cut Your Carbon checklist:
Years 2-6 have been set this as homework on Purple Mash so they can complete it and hand in online.
